How to Brew Great Coffee with a French Press at Home

Brewing great coffee at home does not have to be complicated. With a French press and quality coffee, you can enjoy a rich, flavorful cup every day. At Kai Coffee, we love the French press because it highlights body, sweetness, and origin with minimal effort.

What You Need:
French press
Fresh specialty coffee
Hot water
Spoon
Timer or phone

Step One: Add Coffee
Use a coarse grind, similar to sea salt.
Add one tablespoon of coffee for every six ounces of water.

Step Two: Add Hot Water
Pour hot water over the coffee until the French press is full.
Water should be hot but not boiling.

Step Three: Stir and Wait
Gently stir the coffee to make sure all grounds are wet.
Place the lid on top but do not press yet.
Let the coffee brew for four minutes.

Step Four: Press and Pour
Slowly press the plunger down with steady pressure.
Pour immediately to avoid over extraction.

What to Expect in the Cup
French press coffee is rich, full bodied, and flavorful. You may notice more texture and natural oils compared to filtered coffee. This is normal and part of the experience.

Why We Love the French Press
It is simple, forgiving, and consistent.
It brings out sweetness and depth.
It allows specialty coffee flavors to shine without complicated steps.
